NICE UNCIRCULATED 1843-D QUARTER EAGLE

Variety 4-F, Small Mintmark. Not designated by NGC.

The 1843-D is the most common quarter eagle from the Dahlonega mint in terms of overall rarity and it is among the more available in higher grades. But no D mint quarter eagle is "common" in Uncirculated, especially with natural color and choice surfaces.

This well struck coin has a wonderfully natural appearance with rich reddish-gold color over unmolested surfaces. The strike is sharp and this is a truly "new" coin with no rub on the high spots.

The last NGC MS61 1843-D quarter eagle to sell at auction is this exact coin; see below for full pedigree.

If you are searching for a truly choice but comparatively affordable high grade Dahlonega quarter eagle for type purposes, this may well be the right coin for you.

Ex Heritage 9/16: 13949 where it sold for $6,169.
