SCARCE PCGS/CAC 1841-C QUARTER EAGLE GRADED AU55

Variety 1.

From an absolute rarity standpoint, the 1841-C is among the most difficult quarter eagles from Charlotte. This date is sometimes seen in the higher grades but not often with original color and surfaces.

This well-made example is better detailed than normal for the issue with bold centers. The surfaces are choice save for a single mark in the right reverse field and both sides overlaid with soft golden-russet hues which deepen at the borders. This is a well above-average coin for the date and grade.

Only two PCGS AU55 1841-C quarter eagles have appeared at auction since late 2010, this coin (see below) and another which brought $4,700 as Heritage 3/16: 4401.

A really nice example for the advanced Charlotte quarter eagle specialist.

CAC has approved five in this grade with three finer.

Ex Heritage 10/16: 4339 where it sold for $4,230 without a CAC sticker.
