CHOICE COLLECTOR GRADE 1859 DOUBLE EAGLE WITH CAC APPROVAL

The 1859 is one of the two rarest Type One issues from the Philadelphia mint along with the 1862. It remains undervalued and when available, it tends to be bright, baggy and below average.

This fresh to the market example is remarkably choice for the grade and I tried it a number of times at PCGS as I feel it is a full AU50. It has clean, natural-appearing surfaces covered with attractive yellow-gold color. Some luster remains and there is dirt in the reverse lettering.

Only two PCGS EF45 1859 double eagles have sold at auction since 2003. One realized $13,525 as Heritage 9/16: 5741 (it was undergraded) while the other brought $6,169 (it was overgraded).

This is an unusual opportunity to acquire a really attractive 1859 double eagle at a price below $10,000.

CAC has approved 2 in this grade with 7 finer.
