PCGS/CAC MS62 1893-CC $5.00

The 1893-CC is numismatically significant as the final half eagle produced at the Carson City mint. This date is not often seen in graded higher than MS62 to MS63 and for most collectors, a nice MS62 represents the Best Value Grade for this issue.

This is a very high end coin for the grade which I could easily see in an MS62+ holder. It is frosty and well detailed with nice natural golden color and clean, frosty surfaces. Unlike many examples of this date, this piece has never been dipped or messed with and the eye appeal is excellent.

Three MS62 1893-CC half eagles have sold at auction so far this year and these have realized $4,560 (August), $4,800 (June) and $6,000 (February).

An average quality MS63 will run you $7,500-8,000 which seems like an overpay for an 1893-CC half eagle and this pleasing MS62 would make a superb selection as a type coin as well.

Ex Stacks Bowers 2018 ANA: 4149 where it sold for $4,560.

CAC has approved 9 in this grade with 5 finer.
