PERFECT FOR TYPE PCGS MS61 1843-D HALF EAGLE

Medium D; designated by PCGS.

The 1843-D is among the more available half eagles from this mint both in terms of overall and high grade rarity but it is rare in properly graded Uncirculated. There are around a dozen or so in Uncirculated with most in the MS60 to MS62 range.

This well struck, frosty example is characterized by nice natural green-gold color which is correct for the issue. The obverse and the reverse both show some grade-limiting ticks from handling but there is an absence of actual wear and the appearance is that of a legitimately "new" coin.

Only one PCGS MS61 1843-D half eagle has sold at auction since May 2007 and it brought $9,988 as Lot 10248 in Stacks Bowers 2015 ANA sale.

This is a perfect high grade Dahlonega half eagle for the collector seeking a single special coin for type purposes.
