PCGS MS63 1836 HALF EAGLE

As a rule, the five basic Philadelphia Classic Head half eagles are not often seen above MS62 and properly graded MS63’s are the best value grade for most advanced collectors, giving the high price tag on MS64 and MS65 examples.

This is an extremely nice coin for the grade with natural medium orange-gold color which deepens to a reddish hue at the border. The strike is better than average for the date with uncommonly bold detail seen at the centers. The luster is excellent with a satiny finish and the surfaces are very clean save for a few shallow marks at the central left obverse field.

The two most recent APRs for non-CAC 1836 half eagles graded MS63 by PCGS are both $11,400 with one sale in early 2018 and the other in late 2017.

This date more than doubles in price in the next grade up and, as I stated above, MS63 seems like a good value to me.
