NICE UNCIRCULATED 1851-O $2.50 WITH CAC APPROVAL

VP-001; 1851/1851-O. Winter Variety 1.

The 1851-O is scarcer in Uncirculated than current population figures suggest as many of the coins in MS61 and even in MS62 holders don’t qualify as Uncirculated by my standards. There are as many as 15 or so known in Uncirculated with virtually all in the MS60 to MS62 range.

This is an outstanding coin for the grade with a complete lack of wear or rub on the high spots and lovely rich natural green-gold and pale orange hues on both sides. A few wispy lines in the right obverse field narrowly preclude a higher grade.

No CAC approved MS61 1851-O quarter eagle has ever sold at auction.

This is one of the nicest MS61 examples of this date I have seen and it is the first I have ever offered with CAC approval.

CAC has approved two in this grade with two finer (both MS62).
