NICE PCGS/CAC AU58 A. BECHTLER DOLLAR WITH CAC APPROVAL

K-24, R-3. Plain Edge.

This coin was struck between 1842 and 1850 at the Bechtler private mint in North Carolina, and it is the most readily available issue from this minter. These coins saw extensive circulation in North Carolina, and are traditionally collected side-by-side with the regular issues from the Charlotte mint which began production of gold dollars in 1849.

This piece, which is made from native Carolina gold, exhibits no real wear and it has lovely deep, even green-gold color. There is a very light scratch over BEC in BECHTLER but the surfaces are very clean and wholesome.

Only four PCGS AU58 examples of this variety have sold at auction since late 2012, and the most recent offering brought $4,080 as Heritage 4/19: 5218; it had nice color but wasn’t CAC approved.

If you collect Charlotte gold and don’t have a Bechtler Dollar, this piece would make a great addition to your set.

CAC has approved 15 in this grade with 20 finer.
