RARE PCGS/CAC MS63 1853-C GOLD DOLLAR

While common in circulated grades and only marginally scarce in the lowest Uncirculated grades, properly graded MS63 1853-C dollars are quite rare and this issue is almost never seen finer.

This exceptional coin is crisp and vibrant with a glow which is seen only on the few known examples of this date which have not been fiddled with. Both sides show intense yellow-gold hues with some reddish contrast at the obverse periphery. The quality of the planchet is far above-average and the overall quality is far better than most seen for the date and for the grade.

The last APR for this date in PCGS/CAC MS63 is Legend 2/15: 297 at $12,337. In the Heritage 2011 ANA auction, a similar piece realized $13,800.

No Charlotte gold coin—regardless of date or denomination—is readily available in MS63 and this piece is absolutely ideal for a type collection seeking a single high quality Type One gold dollar from this facility.

CAC has approved 4 in this grade with none finer.
