SCARCE 1876-CC EAGLE GRADED EF40 BY NGC

There were a scant 4,696 eagles made at the Carson City mint in 1876-CC and it is likely that only 100 or so exist with most in lower grades. This date is not often seen in collector grades (VF and EF) and this is evidenced by the fact that there are just seven auction appearances for this date in Extremely Fine grades since 2010.

This piece has very smooth surfaces with deep, even russet colors seen on the obverse and the reverse. As on all known examples, the centers are a bit weakly impressed.

The last EF40 1876-CC eagle to sell at auction was a PCGS piece which realized $12,925 in January 2013. An NGC EF45 brought $11,163 in March 2014.

This date is not often available in straight-graded EF at less than $10,000.
