RARE NGC MS62 1830 QUARTER EAGLE

BD-1, R-4.

Slightly over 100 examples of this date exist in all grades, making the 1830 one of the two most available dates of this type along with the 1831. There are a number of Gems known, but these are rare and expensive, making coins in the MS62 to MS64 range very popular with type collectors.

This example has been off the market since 2007 and it is semi-prooflike with nice natural orange-gold color which is deepest at the obverse border. The strike is sharp while the luster is full on both sides. There are a few minor marks which limit the grade with the most noticeable placed in the lower obverse fields.

Surprisingly, there are four APRs for this date in NGC MS62 since late 2014. These are as follows: $22,800 (8/19), $25,850 (coin was CAC; 8/16), $24,675 (coin was CAC; 11/14), and $22,913 (11/14).

This would make an excellent type example of the rare, short-lived quarter eagle design of 1829-1834.
