VERY RARE PCGS MS62 1852-D

There are likely no more than three to five 1852-D gold dollars in MS62 as well as a single piece graded MS63 by NGC.

This is an extremely late die state with an incredible number of clashmarks; more, in fact, than on any American gold coin that I can remember seeing. These clashes make the surfaces appear somewhat rough but this coin is really “as struck.” Both sides are frosty with nice light yellow-gold color.

Only five APRs for this date in PCGS MS62 exist since late 1997 and just two have occurred since January 2004. The most recent record is Heritage 12/17: 3199 at $14,400.

This is among the more important gold dollars in this wonderful specialized collection and it deserves to reside in an advanced set.
