EXCEPTIONAL CAC APPROVED NGC MS63 1849-D

The 1849-D is far and away the most available Type One gold dollar from Dahlonega. Properly graded MS63 examples are quite rare, and this date is essentially unavailable in grades above this as there are likely no more than three in MS64.

This is an absolutely exceptional coin with rich natural orange-gold and greenish toning in a lovely configuration which deepens at the borders. The strike is incredibly sharp for an Dahlonega issue with full hair and wreath details. The surfaces are very clean and show no signs of having been tampered with, as is the case with most of the higher grade 1849-D dollars I have seen. This is the finest 1849-D dollar I have offered in some time.

No CAC approved 1849-D dollar graded MS63 appears to have been offered for sale at auction since the inception of this firm. A nice PCGS MS63 without CAC approval brought $14,400 as Heritage 3/18: 2248 while an NGC MS63 in an older holder realized a strong $19,975 as Heritage 9/16: 13920.

If you have been searching for an impressive high grade Type One Dahlonega gold dollar for your set, this piece is strongly recommended.

CAC has approved two in this grade with three finer.
