The 1859-D is the most available Type Three dollar from this mint and the second most available in high grades after the 1849-D. There are as many as two dozen known in Uncirculated with most in the MS60 to MS62 range. Most of these, however, are low end for the grade and have ben processed.
This is a choice, original piece with great eye appeal for the date and grade. It is a strictly “new” coin with no wear or friction and complete luster on both sides. The surfaces are clean and wholesome with rich green-gold color. The strike, as always, is somewhat flat on the central details but the date is fully defined.
There have been only two auction appearances for this date in PCGS MS61 since 1994.
If you are a type collector searching for a single high grade Type Three gold dollar from Dahlonega with unquestionable charm and originality, this is a perfect piece for your consideration.
This is the only 1859-D dollar in MS61 approved by CAC; two finer have been approved as well.
