Small Mintmark variety. As with the other early Type Three dates, the 1880-S is a date that is scarce in MS62, very rare in MS63 and nearly unobtainable finer. A nice MS61 is hard to find but reasonably priced and this is contrasted by an MS62 that is worth $5,500-6,000 and an MS63 tyhat, if available, would sell for over $20,000. The present example is choice and original with nice lime and rose colors atop lustrous, lightly scuffed surfaces. The last APR for a PCGS MS61 is Heritage 8/12: 4753 that sold for $3,525.

This date also comes with a Tall Mintmark variety.
